15 minutes from Bordeaux city centre, Château Pape Clément is an urban vineyard, with its neighbour Château Haut-Brion.This is one of the oldest Grands Crus in the whole Bordeaux region. The vineyard was planted in the 13th century by the noble who went on to become Pope Clement V. The estate prides itself on having produced wine on the same land for 7 centuries. Rich in history, Château Pape Clément can also be proud of its beautiful park, architecture and arts, as the beautiful glasshouse built by Gustave Eiffel.
The Chateau is surrounded by 60 hectares of vineyards in the Graves Grand Cru Classé appellation. Guest eooms are decorated with 19th-century furniture, but also have modern facilities such as a flat-screen TV, a Nespresso coffee maker and air conditioning. The private bathrooms are dressed in marble!
Several tours & tastings are available, everyday (Sunday included), on reservation. There is a boutique, where furniture comes from a former pharmacy, and where you can discover all the wines from M.Magrez’s 40 other properties in Bordeaux and around the world!
To complete the experience, enjoy a night or longer in one of the 5 rooms in the Château, typical of the “art de vivre à la française”!
The wine: “Known to possess one of the best terroirs in Bordeaux, this historic estate has the potential and the capacity to produce first-rate wines. The 2014 is quite refined; there is some elegant charm, and juicy, sweet dark fruit in abundance, with dark cherries and plum in evidence. The mouth-feel is full, and there seems to be power here, but it is kept in check. A silky and suave finish completes the enjoyment.” (Berry Bros & Rudd)
